Spreading the word

We’d like lots more people to know about Cenacolo – it’s astonishing that so few have heard of it, let alone understand what the community does. Last week, as a recent trustee, I took a friend to visit who will take more photos of the brothers – photos that will, we hope, show how profound a change life in the fraternity offers to those who choose it.

She looked in vain for the rare crayfish in the stream, although Andrea assured Female catkin flowersus that he has seen them; but she found female catkin flowers which are, it seems, just as rare. For the first time I got inside the polytunnels and saw the newly sprouting plants; and saw through the eyes of somebody with a strong sense of history how the site of Dodding Green is both a shelter and refuge, and a place of turbulence.

plants in polytunnelWe looked at the opening to the priest’s hole and thought about what life must have been like for Catholics in hiding in the 17th century. (It has made me think about the Christians in the Middle East who are now so persecuted.)

Daily Commitments

And I came away with a photo of the Daily Commitments for Lent, posted on the door to the Chapel.

Nativity Open Day 2014

007What an amazing day the 29th November turned out to be! The weather was so out of character for the end of November; it was bright, sunny, almost balmy! But the amazement was not just down to the weather, it was down also to the joy of sons meeting their parents for the first time in six months; the congregating of the friends who support the brothers and all that goes on with the twice yearly Open Day at Cenacolo. To Love and to Cherish

Wedding kneelMartin McNally was one of the first British addicts to enter the Cenacolo Community in the newly opened House at Dodding Green nearly nine years ago. Gradually this shy and seemingly introverted lad began to change, he put behind him his drug addiction and entered fully into the life of the Community. Continue reading

Nice to see you again!

Reunion 2014During late summer, a group of former Cenacolo members came back to visit the House at Dodding Green. Most of them had at one time been members of the Fraternity there. These men now regularly meet to support each other after having passed successfully back into society. They were spending a few days together in The Lakes and called to visit the Community. They had lunch together and then, for old time’s sake, played a game of football. Their visit concluded with Mass at Holy Trinity & St George, Kendal.

News of Anniversary Open Day 2014

IMG_1844 The 9th Anniversary celebration brought together many Cenacolo friends and parents who are related to those in Cenacolo Communities around Europe. It was delightful to have Massimo and Marco, who are currently studying to be priests of the Cenacolo Community in Italy.  Also, a UK lad from Cenacolo in Italy who came to lead the weekend’s music ministry, was most welcome.

Bishop Michael Campbell celebrated the 9th Anniversary Mass, in the barn Chapel, whichIMG_1846 was the highlight of a moving and memorable day. As usual, the lads in the Community gave testimonies and sang farewell to Bishop Michael as he left after lunch.IMG_1863

Celebrating 9 Years at Dodding Green

IMG_1753PSDOn the 19th March 2014, a small group of Cenacolo friends joined the Cenacolo lads for Holy Mass celebrated by Fr. Chris. It was followed by a pizza evening to celebrate 9 years since the official opening of Cenacolo UK at Dodding Green. It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
